Importance of Breakfast to Women’s Fitness

Love it? Hate it? Don’t have time for it? Well, research has shown that women really need to make time for a healthy breakfast each day. If you can shave a few minutes off your morning chaos for a decent breakfast…  you body will thank you.

Research shows that breakfast within 30 minutes of “getting up” provides your body’s metabolism with the kick start that it needs. Once your metabolism gets into full swing it burns fat better, faster, and more efficiently.  This means you kick start the fat burning mechanisms in your body earlier when you eat a healthy breakfast (donuts do not count!). Add an exercise workout to that… and you have a fat burning duo to be reckoned with!

Research has also shown that breakfast helps combat the bad cholesterol that accumulates in our body. If we skip breakfast the bad cholesterol has more opportunity to accumulate. This same research has shown that skipping breakfast also causes us to become insulin resistant. This causes us to have issues with processing the sugar in carbohydrates as well as contributing to other health issues.

The cold hard facts also cause us to realize that skipping breakfast will lead to a fatigued body and less acute brain activity. Your body needs fuel to think and move, when we deprive it of fuel we suffer the consequences.

Another proven fact is that those people who eat breakfast usually eat less throughout the rest of the day. Why? Because your body needs a certain number of calories per day to maintain optimal functioning. If we don’t get those calories early in the day, we feel deprived and typically will turn to foods that we can grab fast (which typically are not healthy foods).

I have seen this time and time again in my own life. If I eat a good breakfast, I have lots of energy in the morning and don’t even feel hungry till lunch. I have no temptations to crab unhealthy snacks and I am more focused on my health. Yet, conversely if I don’t eat breakfast I am dragging along throughout the morning and then just want to grab the first thing I can find to eat.

Just think, with one little preventive diet step each day you can change your life for the better in so many ways. Eat breakfast to:

  • Have more energy
  • Eat less throughout the rest of the day
  • Kick start your metabolism
  • Keep your brain alert
  • Lose weight (by eating a lean healthy breakfast)
  • Keep yourself healthy by avoiding bad cholesterol
  • Keep your insulin reaction functioning properly
