Do you supplement?

Eating healthy, exercising, and feeling great? I enjoy the benefits that a healthy dedicated lifestyle bring.  I have had several people ask if we supplement our diet with any natural herbs or vitamins. I must admit, that I do. My husband has pretty much quit taking anything except for a protein shake just before his 6 mile run. However, I take a combination of herbs and vitamins on a daily basis.

There are a few supplements that I really recommend to everyone. One of those is the green foods. I love using Swanson’s Vitamins. You really can’t beat the price and the quality usually is just as good as anything you can buy in a retail store.

Green Foods – There are a lot of people who do the green foods shakes every day. I must admit that my palate is not suited to drinking such wonderful fare. BUT, I have found that Swanson’s carries the Veggies4Life and Fruit4Life tablets. These are great, and I personally take these each day.

Probiotics- I typically like to get my probiotics naturally from yogurt or other food such as dark chocolate, pickles/olives, sauerkraut, and miso soup. If you can’t do these foods, taking a probiotic supplement is beneficial. Make sure that whatever probiotic supplement you use has a wide range of bacteria.

Omega-3 – Again this is an area that I like to really get from whole foods. Great sources of this are fish, olive oil, canola oil, and nuts/seeds. But if you need to take a supplement Swanson’s has a great lemon flavored omega-3.

Vitamin C – I have issues with vericose veins, so I take about 2,000 mg a day.

Vitamin D – This is a new one that I am trying. Research shows that this vitamin is great for boosting immunity as well as for colon health.

Vitamin E – I take this for heart health, and it seems to really give my skin a nice warm glow. I also use it topically on my face once or twice a week – it works like a face lift!

Combo Magnesium, Zinc, Calcium- some people may need a Niacin supplement. Be careful when taking Niacin and Zinc… a little goes a LONG way!

Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D – Osteoporosis is common in my family I take one caplet a day.

For other issues such as stomach ulcers or digestive problems I suggest using aloe vera juice. This juice has amazing healing properties for both inside and outside our bodies!

Finding a good vitamin is one of the vital factors to living a healthy life. For me, this vitamin has always proven to be the best. It just gives your soul what it needs and it doesn’t have all of those nasty side effects as all of the bad ones. It’s also one of the cheapest ones out there.
